Uley Under 11's Season Report 2005-06
The Under 11's celebrated the end of their first full season of league football, by receiving
their individual awards and the club's 'Team of the Year Award' at last Saturday's Presentation Evening.
The award
recognised the achievement of the whole team over the season. The U11's record in 2006 is played 9, won 8, with 25 goals scored
and only 3 conceded. A run that saw them climb from bottom in the league to third place.
At first the U11's had struggled
to come to grips with the pace and organisation of their much more experienced opponents, losing their first five games and
conceding 23 goals.
Thus, even when Uley managed to record their first victory (4-3 over Hawkesbury at the end of
October), the players confidence remained brittle. The mixed results of the next weeks, a victory over Slimbridge, a draw
with Wotton and two losses signalled an improvement, but nobody really predicted the transformation that was to come after
Christmas.
Both myself and my Assistant Tim Hudson always believed that the players had the ability to compete at this
level, but realised that confidence is crucial at this age. Therefore, the really significant factor, is not so much the results,
but the way in which a group of young players (with only one or two additions) had the strength of character to trust in
their teammates and determination to improve. To enjoy football, be competitive and sporting, both in victory and defeat,
is all that can be asked of any team, and the U11's have been a fantastic example of this.
Individual awards for this
season are as follows:
Players Player - Jae Pitts Managers Player - Jacob Opher Sportsman - Tom Burroughs Most
Improved Player - Jimmy Dolphin Joint Top Scorers - Jae Pitts/Ryan Dolbear

Uley Top Scorer 2005-2006
The Results are in for Uley's top scorer for the season 2005-2006! James Stennett fired in 15
goals this term proving a worthy winner of the title. However, Ryan Constantine came a close second with 13 goals proving
that their partnership is bears much promise for next season. Rich Kemp came third hitting 7 goals this season, a generous
contribution from a midfielder!
USA Tour Spring 2006
Uley AFC club members Wayne Fisher, Did Williams, Chalky Chandler, James Stennett and Steve King recently
toured South-West USA, to coincide with former player Andy Bird's Las Vegas wedding.
The 2 week tour started in Phoenix,
Arizona and ended in Los Angeles, California. In between the intrepid fivesome visited Las Vegas, The Grand Canyon,
San Francisco, Sequoia Forest, San Diego, Tijuana (for approx 30 mins only!) and Los Angeles.
Some Uley AFC club members
attribute the clubs general poor end of season finish down to this tour, which deprived the club of 4 valuable players and
Chalky! The Community Centre's bar takings were also down during this period!!!
